Sketching Landscapes

Hi guys,

i've just returned from my recent travels over to the UK and realised that I haven't yet posted my most recent article from Light and Landscape Magazine. The article is called 'Sketching Landscapes' and can be seen below. The article discusses how you come to reach your desired composition and a little bit about learning from your mistakes. You can still see it in the magazine by checking out my previous blog post and following the links there. For now here's the article.

Australia and New Zealand

Hi,

Let me first wish you a Happy New Year and I hope you had a great time over the festive period. For me it was something new this year. It was the first time that I've ever been away on holiday over Christmas and New Year and also my first time on a cruise ship. It was both a holiday and a delayed honeymoon for my wife and I after our wedding in the early part of last year. We had an unbelievable time on board the "Celebrity Solstice" and in the process visited some truly astounding places around Australia and New Zealand.

This trip was a great time to relax and refresh ready for whatever this year brings, but at the same time you cannot possibly visit a place like New Zealand and leave your camera at home. As I sit here now in my office and load the memory cards onto my laptop I'm already very excited to see some of the photographs that I made and I will of course, share them with you soon.

I went on the trip with a couple of bodies of work in mind as we saw a wide variety of places. As soon as I can I will start forming the photographs into these mini projects and begin to share them with you. As with all good holidays though we soon enough return to the reality of heading back to work. For me it begins tomorrow so it will take me a few weeks to get through the photographs and share them with you so please be patient in the meantime.

For now I'll leave you with a single sneak preview of one of the most majestic places on the planet. The World Heritage listed 'Milford Sound' in New Zealand. I cannot possibly put into words what I was thinking as we entered this part of New Zealand's Fjord-land National Park, although playing the theme music from the movie 'Jurassic Park' would be a very appropriate backing track! The weather was icy cold from the Antarctic winds that meet the South West part of New Zealand's South Island. At the early hours of the morning this weather draped the sheer rock faces in spectacular mist and fog.

take care for now,

James

Urban Landscapes of the UK

Hello!

Well it feels like it's been a while since I've last shared some of my work with you so it gives me great pleasure to welcome you to my latest body of work.

Recently, as you may or may not be aware, I made the trip back over to the UK to marry my lovely partner. The wedding was unbelievable and a day that will never be forgotten. I also spent some time travelling around the country to visit my friends and family. During my travels I managed to spend some time photographing some of the beautiful and not so beautiful places that I visited along the way. This collection of photographs is called "Urban Landscapes of The UK" and begins in my favourite of the UK cities, Norwich. My homepage will direct you to the lovely, but slightly wet Norwich. From here you can access any of the other places by clicking/tapping the "Urban Landscapes" title bar. You have four to choose from, all in the order by which I visited. Norwich, Liverpool, Chester and Southport. I hope you enjoy the photographs and feel free to let me know what you think by contacting me here or on my social media.

Take care,

James

I'm back!

Hi,

I hope you're all well.

Just a quick note to let you know that I'm back from my trip overseas and now almost over the associated jetlag. During the trip I had the chance to photograph a few different towns and cities throughout England. Once I have catalogued and edited the photographs I will share them here, on my website, as a mini series of UK places. I'm hoping to begin this tonight and complete it by the time Monday rolls around.

As many of you will be aware the reason for making the trip was for my partner and I to get married. The day was excellent, far beyond anything we could have ever wished for. Even the UK weather shined for us giving us a beautiful, warm sunny day. Apparently the best day of the year so far! That's all from me for now and I'll be in touch once my mini series of photos are up and available.

Take care,

James
